The Lidcombe Program Can Help Treat Stuttering During the Pre-School Years

Would you like to find out what those-in-the-know have to say about Stuttering? The information in the article below comes straight from well-informed experts with special knowledge about Stuttering.

There are a lot of techniques that can help children who stutter. One example of this is the Lidcombe program.

The Lidcombe program was developed to treat stuttering in children below the age of 6. It is based on a body of laboratory-operant condition research and is done in two stages. In the first stage the objective is to stop the child from stuttering. The second is to reinforce the first so this can be maintained for a longer period.

The Lidcombe program was developed in Australia and used widely in Canada, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. Some are already using this in the United States, South African and several non-English speaking countries.

What makes the Lidcombe program so different from others is the fact that this is conducted by parents and not a speech language pathologist. This person is still there and his or her job is simply to teach the parents how to do this treatment.

Treatment using the Lidcombe program is very direct. This means directly giving feedback to the child about their speech. There is no negative feedback when this is being done with a child. If the child does not make any mistakes, the parent will reply ? no bumps there? or ?that was lovely smooth talking.? However if the child stutters, the parents will acknowledge it and say ?that was a stuck word? or ? try it again without the stuck word.? The parent does not have to give feedback each time the child speaks but chooses specific times.

A daily log is also used so the parent will be able to measure the child?s progress. The scale is from 0 to 10. If the child was rated a 0, this means this it was a stutter free day. Should the child score 10, then there was severe stuttering.

The information about Stuttering presented here will do one of two things: either it will reinforce what you know about Stuttering or it will teach you something new. Both are good outcomes.

At the end of each week, the child, parent and speech language pathologist will examine the scores of the previous week.

As mentioned earlier, the Lidcombe program is comprised of two stages. When the child maintains a low stutter score, this is the time that stage 2 begins.

Treatment for the Lidcombe program varies and this depends on the child. But on average, most children move to stage 2 after 11 visits to the clinic.

The key to the Lidcombe program?s success is the positive support of both parents and children. This is because treatment is done in a comfortable environment namely the home and the one who is treating the child is either the mother or the father.

Parents who want to try the Lidcombe program should remember that this treatment must never interfere with the child?s communication. It should be a part of the child?s everyday life so you don?t need to set a time and place.

It will take some time to learn which is why from time to time, the speech language pathologist will visit the home to make sure the parents are doing it correctly.

The success of the Lidcombe program lies in the hands in the parents. Once they are able to master the skills that are taught to them, only then will the child be able tor reduce the number of times he or she stutters. If you have a child who stutters beyond six years of age, another program has to be used because this can only work for children in their pre-school years.

That’s the latest from the Stuttering authorities. Once you’re familiar with these ideas, you’ll be ready to move to the next level.

Shocking and Interesting Facts about Stuttering

How do people usually react when they hear someone stutter? They most likely make fun of the stuttering person. And how do people usually perceive someone who stutters? Stupid, dumb, or even good for nothing. A person?s competence or personality is always judged based on how good a speaker he is. That is a sad reality for many people who tend to stutter. Whether you are among the 1 percent of the world?s population that stutters or not, it helps to know and understand the basic facts about this speech condition to put things in a better perspective. This is especially helpful for parents with children who stutter.

The following are some of the essential and interesting facts about stammering that people should know:

? Individuals who stutter are normal, as they lack only the ability to express words fluently. They are not mentally incapacitated as what others perceive them to be. Stutterers can be as smart as non-stutterers are.

? Speech disfluency typically begins at the age of two to five.

? Boys are four times more likely to stutter than girls.

? The real cause of stammering has not yet been determined.

? Speech disfluency runs in families, leading scientists to believe that this condition can be hereditary.

The more authentic information about Stuttering you know, the more likely people are to consider you a Stuttering expert. Read on for even more Stuttering facts that you can share.

? A lot of well-known people in the field of politics and entertainment stuttered and were able to cope with their speech difficulties. The world?s famous stutterers include actress Marilyn Monroe, British politician Winston Churchill, King George VI, author Lewis Carroll, musician Carly Simon, and former U.S. president George W. Bush.

? For many people, stammering gives them a feeling that their speech is way beyond their control. Such a feeling makes them worry and disturbed about their self-image, causing them to feel ashamed of themselves and to be extremely anxious every time they speak. Their tendency to stutter also makes them fear talking in front of others.

? The anxiety that a person feels boosts the intensity and frequency of stammering. This creates a cycle that only escalates the condition.

? Stammering behaviors develop and change in a person?s entire lifespan. Most people who stutter experience variations in the level of their speech problem. There are times when they stutter frequently, while at other times, they stutter just a bit.

? In children, there are times when stammering seem to disappear on its own, but it goes back later on a more severe level.

? About 80 percent of toddlers who stutter will eventually outgrow their speech disfluency. The remaining 20 percent of these children continue the speech condition for the rest of their lives. These children tend to talk very fast and struggle to say words that seem to stuck. This behavior increases the likelihood of stammering in later years.

People with stuttering problems are often misunderstood, and this make the problem worse for them. It is important that you know how to deal with and help your family members or friends who stutter so that they will be able to cope better with their condition.

Is there really any information about Stuttering that is nonessential? We all see things from different angles, so something relatively insignificant to one may be crucial to another.

Plus Size and Pregnant

You should be able to find several indispensable facts about Pregnancy Nutrition in the following paragraphs. If there’s at least one fact you didn’t know before, imagine the difference it might make.

A majority of plus sized women who are pregnant will experience a healthy pregnancy, but they are at a risk of having a more bumpy ride than someone who is not overweight.

Women who are overweight, or have a body mass index (BMI) of 25 or more are at a greater risk of certain pregnancy complications like gestational diabetes and preeclampsia. No knows for sure why weight matters so much, as far as most doctors are concerned it is just one piece of the puzzle. The truth is most plus size women go on to have completely uneventful pregnancies and deliver perfect healthy babies as long as they eat well, exercise and watch their weight throughout pregnancy. The biggest problem with being plus sized and pregnant is that you are at a greater for some of the following.

Studies have shown that overweight women have a higher rate of neural tube defects which are problems with how your baby’s brain and spinal cord develop. These studies are unable to pin point exactly why overweight women are at a higher risk and have a higher rate. Some studies have shown that overweight women have lower blood folate levels than a woman who is of normal weight. Folate is needed especially in the early stages of pregnancy to help avoid neaural tube defects. Because of this, if you are overweight your doctor may prescribe you a prenatal vitamin with 1000 micrograms of folic acid. In fact, if you are overweight and planning on becoming pregnant, you may want to start taking folic acid before you even conceive.

It seems like new information is discovered about something every day. And the topic of Pregnancy Nutrition is no exception. Keep reading to get more fresh news about Pregnancy Nutrition.

Gestational diabetes is another complication that overweight women are at a greater risk of developing. Gestational diabetes is elevated blood-sugar level during pregnancy. The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development estimate that women with normal BMI which is between 19 and 24 have a 2% chance of developing gestational diabetes. Overweight women have a 6% chance of developing this condition and obese women or women who have a BMI of 30 or more have a 9% chance of being diagnosed with gestational diabetes. Remember though that if you are diagnosed with this, you can still go on and have a healthy pregnancy with a modified eating plan.

Almost 10% of obese and overweight women develop a condition called gestational hypertension. This is when your blood pressure becomes high with a reading of 140 over 90 or higher after your 20th week of pregnancy but you do not have any protein in your urine.

Gestational hypertension is usually a small concern but can put you at a higher risk for preeclampsia (which is indicated by high blood pressure AND protein in your urine), intrauterine growth restriction, preterm birth, placental abruption and still birth. If you do go on to develop preeclampsia, your weight is probably not that big of a factor. In fact if you are under 35 and overweight you have LESS of a chance of developing preeclampsia that a woman over 35 and a healthy weight.

Perhaps the most common complication for overweight women is longer labors and the possible risk of a cesarean section. Nearly 26-35% of deliveries are cesarean delivery. You are at a bigger risk if you have been diagnosed with preeclampsia or gestational hypertension or have a large baby.
Eating healthy throughout your pregnancy and working with your doctor to manage your weight will help reduce these risks and increase your already high chances of having a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby.

Top Word Board Games

Many board games are made to entertain and facilitate family bonding. But word games provide more than that. Word games improve language skills, expand vocabulary and promote quick thinking. Let us look at top word games that are both well known and deserve a good recognition.

Scrabble. This game does not need any introduction. The fact that it has sold more than 100 million copies and has been published in 21 different language versions, the game is considered to be one of the most successful board games ever invented and the most successful word games of all time. Scrabble is very easy to play and the rules could not be any simpler. With the right skill in language and vocabulary, you can shuffle different letter tiles to make a word. The good thing about this game is that, as you play along, you will learn different words and you can actually expand your vocabulary. (For 2 to 4 players but it can be played alone.)

Typo. The game starts with 12 cards at hand with 5 cards on the table – each card with a letter. The players will then try to expand the cards on the table by playing their cards. Typo may not be as popular as scrabble but it surely is a fun and exciting game.

If you base what you do on inaccurate information, you might be unpleasantly surprised by the consequences. Make sure you get the whole Board Games story from informed sources.

Upwords. Many word games today are based on scrabble. One of these is Upwords. The game is even played almost the same as scrabble. Players must stack letter on top of the existing words on the table to create new one. Scoring is rather different though. All letters in the game is worth the same (in scrabble, certain letters have higher points value than others).

Boggle. This is not exactly played on a board. Still, boggle can be classified as one of the top word games in the market. The game works like word factory. Players must be able to find as many words as possible on a 4×4 grid (16 cubic dice with letters on each face) as the sand timer works its way down. The player scores by finding words that the other players were not able to locate. It is fast-paced game that is fun and very addictive. Scoring depends on the length of the words found.

Apples to Apples. It seems that the title came out when the creator who had finally finished conceptualizing the game didn’t really have a good name for it. So he just decided to name it Apples to Apples. Of course, this is not the real story of the game. But then you have to think that how come two decks of cards (nouns and adjectives) could have such a name? Anyway, Apples and Apples is so much fun. The game is designed for 4 to 10 players with 30 to 60 minutes of playing time. (For 12 years old and above)

BuyWord. If you love to make money out of buying something at a low price and then selling it high, then you’ll definitely understand BuyWord quickly. Designed by Sid Jackson, this game takes at least 30 minutes to play and requires basic skills in counting and vocabulary. The concept of “buy low, sell high” will really come in handy. (For ages 8 years old and up)

Now you can be a confident expert on Board Games. OK, maybe not an expert. But you should have something to bring to the table next time you join a discussion on Board Games.

What Do You Know about Sports Memorabilia?

Have you ever wondered what exactly is up with Sports Memorabilia? This informative report can give you an insight into everything you’ve ever wanted to know about Sports Memorabilia.

Sports memorabilia includes collectibles of all types. Although some immediately think football or baseball when sports collectibles come to mind, there are many more types of sports that have valuable collectibles.

The world of sports is a vast and varied world. Sports all over the globe bring value to the items associated with the sports and famous players. There is the sport of figure skating, horseracing, rugby, soccer, hockey, basketball, wrestling, swimming, track and field, tennis, diving, gymnastics, fencing, cycling, archery, weightlifting, sled dog racing, motorcycle racing, martial arts, lacrosse, boxing, golf, bobsledding, auto racing, and events associated with a rodeo, just to name a few!

For many sports items to be valuable as collectibles, they must be kept in flawless condition. The older and less flawed an item is, the more money it will be worth in the future. Many people will invest in this memorabilia for the sake of their children and grandchildren and guard it as though it were priceless. Not only is it an honor to receive something of such magnitude, it is a matter of personal pride for the person who originally obtained the item.

Sports memorabilia are a wide range, including everything from the traditional trading cards to items owned and often worn by the sports figure that became famous. An often overlooked area of interest is that of books. Many sports figures have written books about their lives, private and public. Many books are valuable just because of the person’s popularity with the public, even if the person was known for being ruthless or rude.

So far, we’ve uncovered some interesting facts about Sports Memorabilia. You may decide that the following information is even more interesting.

A few books that may be of interest include: Skate by Steve Milton, A Year in Figure Skating by Beverly Smith, A Golfer’s Life by Arnold Palmer with James Dodson, Kareem by Kareem Abdul Jabbar with Mignon McCarthy, Baseball Card Price Guide by Dr. James Beckett and Grant Sandground, and Baseball Desk Reference by Lawrence Lorimer.

Figure skating is an area that offers interesting collectibles. The first female skater to achieve fame was the German Professional ‘Charlotte’. A magazine called ‘Women’s Home Companion’ featured a spread on her in 1916.

Product endorsements also provide worthy collectible items. Timex featured Barbara Ann Scott, another female skater and a Canadian. She achieved an Olympic victory in 1948. That prompted a sale of thousands of dolls of her likeness. Another early female skater in demand as a doll was Karen Magnussen.

Of course, the most widespread collectibles in sports memorabilia seems to be cards. It’s fairly low cost to get a child started with a baseball card collection. Although it can become a high cost ordeal as the child becomes an avid die-hard fan and learns to recognize the value of card collecting, a collection is something that may take years to obtain and may never be considered complete. This type of interest will help teach the child responsibility among other things. They must keep the cards from curious friends who haven’t learned the value of collecting and greedy adults who may try to talk the child out of a precious possession.

Is there really any information about Sports Memorabilia that is nonessential? We all see things from different angles, so something relatively insignificant to one may be crucial to another.

Eating Well While Dealing With Morning Sickness

There are a few women out there in this world who sail through their pregnancy without so much of glimpse of queasiness. The rest of us have no such luck. Chances are you are the type of women who the mere smell of what use to be your favorite food sends you running to the nearest toilet. The mere sight of steak can send you heaving and just thinking about eating that salad turns you greener than the romaine lettuce it contains. You probably curse the silly fool who named it “morning sickness” when all pregnant women know it is more like all day sickness.

There are different degrees of morning sickness. Each woman and each pregnancy is different. I spent the first three months of my first pregnancy over a toilet and unable to look at any sort of vegetable or meat. However I made it through my second pregnancy with only a few spurts to the bathroom and hardly any aversions. The good news is though, this is usually only temporary. Most women start feeling better between their 12th and 14th week of pregnancy. Even better news is that your baby is handling this much better than you are. As hard as it is to eat healthy during this period there are some things you can do to help ease your discomfort.

For starters, eat often. It has been shown that an empty stomach tends to make your morning sickness even worse. This is why so many of us feel so bad when we first wake up. We’ve had nothing in our system which means our stomach acids are going crazy since nothing is there to soak them up. The trick to this is to eat often. Try eating six mini meals a days and make sure you have plenty of snacks. Make sure you eat often in bed. Before you go to bed for the night have a snack that is high in protein and in carbs such as nuts and raisins, yogurt and bread stick or a cheese and crackers. Keep a stash of crackers or ginger cookies by your bed and make sure you have one before you even think about getting out of bed in the morning.

Those of you not familiar with the latest on Pregnancy Nutrition now have at least a basic understanding. But there’s more to come.

You will always want to eat mainly carbs and protein. Stick with crackers or fruit to give you some comfort during those first few months. Other good snacks are pretzels, saltines and whole grain toast. For fruits stick with melons and bananas. For your protein add a little cheese or some nuts to your snacks or any time you are feeling a little green. Yogurt is also an excellent choice when fighting morning sickness also.

Make sure you drink your water. If you are vomiting it is essential that you stay hydrated. Making sure you stay hydrated is probably more important that making sure you eat those first few months. Becoming dehydrated can cause a problem for you and your little one so make sure you drink at least 8 glasses of water or juice through out the day. You can also suck on ice chips or fruit juice popsicles if you are having problems keeping liquids down.

The most important thing to keep in mind those first three months is not to beat yourself up if you can not eat as healthy as you would like to. You will still have plenty of time to make up for it after you get through this storm. Just make smart choices when it comes to what you eat and snack on and that will pave the way for when you can eat as a normal person.

There’s a lot to understand about Pregnancy Nutrition. We were able to provide you with some of the facts above, but there is still plenty more to write about in subsequent articles.

Is there a miracle cure for stuttering among kids?

If you have even a passing interest in the topic of Stuttering, then you should take a look at the following information. This enlightening article presents some of the latest news on the subject of Stuttering.

Most of the time people look for easy fixes and miracle cures for a lot of different illness and diseases. In a lot of instances people are asking to be rid of their sickness without really understanding what the symptoms and causes of the illness is. People are easy to think that a miracle cure can help them save the day. The truth is the no miracle cure for AIDS, there is no wonder drug for HIV and as true as those two truths can be, there is no cure for stuttering.

Stuttering is a speech impediment that causes a person to repeat or prolong the syllables, a word or a single phrase in their statement. This is often caused by severe anxiety, over excitement, self consciousness, embarrassment and stress. People who are put in a hot seat situation often times stutter and stammer for the words to say. People who experience stuttering may experience it as a self-defense mechanism. Adults who have most likely developed stuttering as a defense mechanism also suffer from low self esteem, lack of self confidence, weak personality and weak communication skills.

Most of the time children who have developed stuttering outgrow it in their early toddler years. Children develop stuttering at the time that they are just about learning how to speak. The reason behind is that they are yet to be familiarized with the different textures of sound and they are comfortable in reciting the words or phrases that they find most convenient to them.

Children who are well observed and guided outgrow stuttering without any problems, but for children who do not out grow stuttering there are some factors that contribute to it. One may be the child’s confusion in the language usage. Multi-lingual families often have this kind of setback in the speech development of a child, especially when the child is exposed to different words of different etymologies. Families having and using different dialects or languages to communicate makes it difficult for a child to learn which one language they need to use.

Truthfully, the only difference between you and Stuttering experts is time. If you’ll invest a little more time in reading, you’ll be that much nearer to expert status when it comes to Stuttering.

Another problem or factor is the child’s ability to receive proper coaching and encouragement from parents, children who are rarely monitored by parents often never over come their stuttering because no one was there to help them out. Stuttering in adults causes serious social issues, all of it could have been detected and taken care of as children when they were developing.

For parents, finding the time to stimulate and motivate your children to develop their esteem and their communication skills helps a lot in changing the way people talk. People with stutters of ten need help early on.

Lastly, one of the major factors that contribute to development of stuttering is the refusal of parents to submit their children to professional help. Some parents, especially those with close minds find it a disgrace to them as parents to have a child with defects. Considering the lack of communication skills in a child is considerable defect which constitutes to abnormality. Though a rarity nowadays people who are stuck in the medieval times still think it is god’s punishment to have children with defects.

The real cure for stuttering is knowledge and understanding, there are a lot of speech therapy classes and facilities that specialize in helping people with stutters live a normal life and all it takes is for people to understand.

Stuttering in Children: A Brief Guide for Parents

Are you looking for some inside information on Stuttering? Here’s an up-to-date report from Stuttering experts who should know.

At the age of three to four, children begin stuttering as they develop their speech and language skills. That is just normal during the speech development stage, which causes toddlers to constantly repeat, hesitate, and mispronounce words, sounds, and syllables. This temporary stage is called normal disfluency or pseudo-stuttering that occurs as children learn how to speak properly. Parents have no reason to worry because kids will eventually outgrow this stage after several months.

Until now, the exact cause of speech disfluency in children is still the subject of numerous studies. However, there are factors that may possibly trigger speech disorders in children such as genetics and the malfunction of the mechanisms responsible for speech production in the brain, nerves, and muscles.

Stammering in children becomes a cause for alarm when they fail to show signs of improvement after six months since the onset of stammering. The following are the symptoms every parent should watch out:

? Frequent repetition of a certain syllable (e.g. ?Mom, I want some cho-cho-cho chocolates.?)

? Tendency to pronounce particular sounds in a lengthy way (e.g. ?Ccccccan I wwwwatch TV??)

? Substitution of vowels when repeating certain syllables. (e.g. ?I will wuh-wuh-wuhsh my feet.?)

The information about Stuttering presented here will do one of two things: either it will reinforce what you know about Stuttering or it will teach you something new. Both are good outcomes.

? Change of tone and pitch when the child gets stuck with a word

? Avoidance of speaking for fear of getting embarrassed

How to Help Children Overcome their Condition
As a parent, you have to make life a bit easier for your child and lessen the struggles he or she has to endure while going through the speech disfluency stage. The following are useful tips to help your child cope with the speech problem:

? Refrain from asking your child too many questions. Toddlers will find it easier to speak more clearly when they are allowed to express themselves instead of answering questions often.

? Do not react negatively or scold your child whenever he or she stutters. Making your child feel that you dislike stammering will only make him or her more self conscious. Just listen and show a neutral reaction or simply smile. Also, avoid the urge to complete or correct the sentence for your child. Let him or her express the message without any interruption.

? After your child has completed the sentence, say it again in a slow manner to let him or her know that you understood the message.

? Speak to your child in a moderate pace. This will train your child to speak calmly instead of hurrying to say things. In addition, pay attention to what your child has to say. If you look like you?re in a hurry, your child will tend to speak faster to keep up with you.

? Encourage?but don?t force?your child to talk. That way, the child learns to be confident when speaking. Whenever your child says a complete and correct sentence, praise him or her.

Your child needs your care, understanding, and support to be able to cope with stuttering. Give your child the assurance that you won?t punish him or her for every mistake. That way, it will be easier for the child to outgrow the speech problem.

Now that wasn’t hard at all, was it? And you’ve earned a wealth of knowledge, just from taking some time to study an expert’s word on Stuttering.

Foods to Avoid While Pregnant

If you have even a passing interest in the topic of Pregnancy Nutrition, then you should take a look at the following information. This enlightening article presents some of the latest news on the subject of Pregnancy Nutrition.

Almost every woman knows the basic of what they should and should not do during pregnancy. They know that caffeine should be cut back; they should not smoke, drink alcohol or spend time in any hot tubs. However more and more studies are being done to see if pregnant women should avoid certain foods for the duration of their pregnancy.

It is essential that pregnant women eat a well balanced meal at all times to provide their growing baby with the vitamins, nutrients and minerals that the baby needs to grow. There are some foods though that needs to be avoided due to the risk they pose to not just to the mother, but also to the growing baby.

For starters, raw meat needs to be avoided due to the risk of toxoplasmosis and salmonella. This means no more rare steaks, or rare burgers. Pregnant women should take caution and make sure that all of the meat they eat is cooked well done. Cold deli meat should also be avoided because of the risk of listeria. Listeria can cross the placenta and can cause an infection or blood poisoning to the baby. Keep in mind though that deli meat can be reheated until it is steaming and this will help reduce the risk.

See how much you can learn about Pregnancy Nutrition when you take a little time to read a well-researched article? Don’t miss out on the rest of this great information.

Speaking of listeria there are other foods that can contain this bacteria. Some soft cheeses such as brie, feta, and gorgonzola. These cheeses are commonly made with unpasterized milk. Unpasterized milk often contains listeria, so pregnant women need to make sure that any soft cheeses they are going to eat are made with pasteurized milk.

Fish has always been a subject of debate for pregnant women. While some forms of fish contain essential nutrients that are needed by the baby, others contain a high level of mercury. Any fish with a high level of mercury such as shark, swordfish, king mackerel, tilefish and fish used in sushi should be avoided through out pregnancy. Studies have linked mercury to developmental delays and in some cases brain damage. Tuna also contains a lot of mercury but canned, chunk light tuna has a lower amount of mercury and can be eaten in moderation. Raw shellfish also should be avoided through out pregnancy.

Raw eggs or anything containing raw eggs is a no no during pregnancy. There is a potential exposure to salmonella. This means no raw cookie dough, no brownie mix, and some homemade sauces such as hollandaise, Caesar dressing and blue cheese dressing. When dining in a restaurant, it would be wise to ask any sauces or dressings contain any raw eggs. Most restaurants should be using pasteurized eggs in any raw egg recipe but one should still double check.

There has never been a more important time to be careful what a woman eats then when she is pregnant. Some of the above foods have been linked to miscarriages and other birth defects. If you are pregnant and you have already indulged in a few of the foods you should not have, do not panic. Chances are, you and your baby are fine but take extra care to avoid these foods in the future.

You can’t predict when knowing something extra about Pregnancy Nutrition will come in handy. If you learned anything new about Pregnancy Nutrition in this article, you should file the article where you can find it again.

Some Facts about Stuttering and Drugs for a Cure

Many experts continue their studies about stuttering and drugs for a cure up to this time. But up to now, this remains to be an unsolved case and a mystery to many, especially the people who are suffering from the condition. Many parents resort to speech therapy. Other adults stay away from the public light to avoid scrutiny.
But we are used to a comfortable and easy life. Thanks to the ever developing technology and science. You may not be used at hearing about an area where there is no definite answer as to how to remedy the situation. But this is really the case with regards to stuttering.
There are a lot of studies being done and have been conducted, as well as researches and tests about this medical condition. But the researches have been taking many routes because the roots of the problem are not that clear yet. There are studies that point to the brain as the main culprit. These show that there are some irregularities at the anatomy of the brain that control the speech pattern.
Many people also point to the emotional toots of the problem. Many people who are experiencing turmoil with regards to their feelings often cannot express their thoughts well. This can be brought about by a lot of factors.
For example, when you are in love and you have to tell the other person about how you feel for the first time, you will feel jitters on your whole system that may cause you to stutter. On presentations, whether it is for a business or academic type, when it is time for you to tell many people about what you have practiced for a time, the pressure will get into you that may also cause the stuttering.

Once you begin to move beyond basic background information, you begin to realize that there’s more to Stuttering than you may have first thought.

This is also true when you have a stage fright but you have to perform in front of many, your fear will surely affect your performance that may also affect how you relay what you have to say.
The Medicines
The medicines available for this condition may be few. But the good news is that there are really drugs which you can turn to when the problem becomes too incontrollable. But the sad news about this is that these meds do not necessarily have the same effect on different people. Not everybody will react to the drugs positively. Most of them say that the drugs can only lessen the stuttering up to 50 percent.
So how do you know if the drugs work? If you suffer from the condition, the only way to know if the drugs available are effective is for you to try and experience their effects on your system. It is still a trial and error process that you have to take in order to alleviate the effects of stuttering.
Here is a list of the known drugs which you can try to lessen the effects of your condition and the drugs that you should be careful about.
1. Anti-dopamine medicines. This drug is known for its effects to suppress and stifle stuttering. The reason for this is that the brains of stutterers were found to have high levels of dopamine.  The known brands for this purpose are Haldol, Zyprexa and Risperdal. These three are known to have worked to many stutterers.
2. Be careful in using Prozac and Zoloft. These two can aggravate the situation because these tend to increase the dopamine levels on your brain.
Make sure to read a lot about stuttering and drugs for a cure topic before you commit yourself to your chosen therapy. This way, you are assured that you are very much aware about what you will be getting yourself into.
